The new study included more than 700,000 patients in the U.S. and Germany who were being treated by a doctor for erectile dysfunction or sexual difficulties.
The patients were randomized to take either a placebo or medication designed to help lower blood pressure and sugar, as well to treat erectile dysfunction. In other words, no drugs were permitted.
The researchers found that pill reduced the chances of men developing erectile dysfunction by 40 to 60 percent, or from 4.9 percent to 1.6 percent. Among women, a 25 percent decrease in the chances of sexual problems was also seen.
In addition, the risk of low blood pressure and levels of cholesterol diabetes dropped after the patients started taking pills.
However, some men and women didn't respond as well to the drug and took longer to see results.
The researchers concluded that pill may have more than just medical uses, although the researchers don't know if it is the only reason patients took pill.
One of the main problems with a pill is that it can be taken for a period of weeks, months, or even years to treat a medical condition.
In the new study, participants didn't have any health problems and weren't taking the drug for longer than two years.
